Reports from GC - Day 7: Apr 29

From Darryl :

Is it Tuesday already? Yesterday’s ELCA agreement was celebrated with ecumenical worship today, ELCA Bp Mark Hanson preaching. Watch the video on www.umc.org. He puts the “evangelical” in the ELCA! NB we are also moving toward full communion with the Episcopal Church USA.

Sitting next to Cynthia Astle at yesterday’s GBCS luncheon reminded me to alert you to UMNexus.org. This is a good place to find online discussion among moderate and progressive UMs.

Today began with a Candler breakfast, complete with Natalya and the rest of the Candler singers. Great job! I attended another IRD/UMAction lunch today. Afternoon session culminated in a speech by Liberian president (and UM laywoman) Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. I also attended a banquet along with 600 of my closest friends honoring her and awarding her with the Bridges of Unity award from GCCUIC.

It’s late, so I’ll say goodnight. “Goodnight.”

Oh, and PS: We voted to reduce the number of bishops in the US by one in each jurisdiction (except the SEJ, which had already voluntarily reduced its “entitled” allotment), effective 2012.
